Sorrowful Mysteries

First Mystery: The Agony in the Garden

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”Luke 22:42

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prays in anguish as His Passion approaches. His sweat becomes like drops of blood, and He surrenders Himself wholly to the Father’s will.

Fruit of the mystery: Sorrow for sin · conformity to God’s will

A prayer with Saint Josaphat

Lord Jesus, you gave Saint Josaphat the courage to bear witness to you even to the shedding of blood. By the prayers of Saint Josaphat, make me steadfast in faith and unafraid to follow you. Amen.
