Sorrowful Mysteries
First Mystery: The Agony in the Garden

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”Luke 22:42
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prays in anguish as His Passion approaches. His sweat becomes like drops of blood, and He surrenders Himself wholly to the Father’s will.
Fruit of the mystery: Sorrow for sin · conformity to God’s will
Prayer to Saint Joseph
To you, O blessed Joseph, we have recourse in our tribulation, and having implored the help of your thrice-holy Spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also.
O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence. Shield each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die holily, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.
Pope Leo XIII, Quamquam pluries, 1889 (abridged)
